Royal Flush Gets Solar Panels

Posted on May 17th, 2010

Bridgeport, Conn. – According to bridgeportnews.com, a solar photovoltaic system has been installed on the roof of the 20,000-square-foot Royal Flush commercial building on Andover Street in Black Rock. Mayor Bill Finch attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the project’s completion.

The project, a retrofit, received funding from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) and is projected to reduce the client’s electricity draw from the grid by up to 35%.

It was completed by Sound Solar Systems, a clean energy installation and development company, in partnership with Altus Power Management, a company investing in clean energy projects. Both are based in Greenwich.

“The design and integration of solar panels onto existing residences and commercial buildings can be a delicate task,” said Tony Savino, principal of Sound Solar Systems, pointing to the need to produce “maximum system efficiency while preserving the integrity of the roof.”

The Bridgeport project represents the first investment for Altus Power Management, founded by Tom Athan and Lars Norell, who both previously had Wall Street careers.

CCEF, funded by the electric ratepayers, was established by the state Legislature to develop and invest in clean energy sources.

In addition to the solar panels, Royal Flush, a leader in portable bathrooms and restroom trailer rentals, also has incorporated other green initiatives.  These include the use of non- hazardous deoderizing liquid in their portable restrooms, low emission vehicles, restrooms are stocked with 100% recycled toilet paperand the portable restrooms are made from 40% post consumer recycled plastic.
