I found this great article from a local Examiner listing all the ways you can donate, locally, this holiday season!
Check them out:
American Cancer Society, PA Div.: Past holiday card campaigns by the Women’s Board of the American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division yielded more than $2.2 million to support research, education, advocacy, and service in the fight against cancer. This year’s cards depict scenic Philadelphia in 4 pictures by artist Christine Maxwell Morris. To order cards and for more info: visit http://www.acsholidaycards.org/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNTor call 215.985.5401.
African American United Fund: A toy drive is under way to support 5,000 needy children and their families in these difficult economic times. Drop off or mail new unwrapped toys for children, ages 12 and under, to the main office at 2227 No. Broad Street, RL Little Consulting at 128 Chestnut Street, and local businesses Monday – Friday between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. This year’s partners are TL Gilliams’ Joy to the World Fest, RL Little Consulting, Fraternal Order of Housing Police, Uptown Entertainment, Development Corporation, Greys Lounge and others. Also needed are volunteers to help sort toys on Dec. 18 -19. Celebrity guests have been invited to distribute toys this holiday season courtesy of T.L. Gilliams LLC. For info: call 215.454.2583.
Angel Tree: Thanks to a generous matching grant, $11.45 delivers love to not one but two children of U.S. prisoners. Angel Tree connects parents in prison with their children by delivering Christmas gifts usually in the parents’ names. Angel Tree identified 759 children needing holiday love from incarcerated parents in Pennsylvania. For info: visit http://www.angeltree.org/deliverlove or call 1.800.55.ANGEL(800.552.6435).
Philadelphia Cares: Some expect the shirt off your back; Philadelphia Cares just wants the coat. Last year 150 businesses, civic groups, and individuals in the Delaware Valley collected 10,000 new and gently used coats that were distributed throughout the region. Start a drive at your church, school, or office or visit one of Philadelphia Cares’ public drop off sites between now and January 17, 2011. Deliver donations of 10 coats or more at the central St. Vincent DePaul warehouse at 901 East Luzerne Street in Philadelphia between 9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m., Monday – Saturday. For more info: visit http://philacares.com/ or contact Volunteer@philacares.org or 215.564.4555.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: Holiday shoppers, national corporate partners, and celebrities are, all, uniting to raise funds during this year’s Thanks and Giving campaign. You can shop where you see the magnifying glass and add donations at the register or purchase specialty merchandise. And, get involved spreading the word about St. Jude’s mission on Facebook and Twitter, share virtual gifts and stories with friends and families via the Thanks and Giving website, and make donations there. Salvation Army: There are numerous ways to bring joy to families this holiday season through the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia’s Christmas programs. Provide gifts to an entire household through Adopt-A-Family. Drop off new, unwrapped toys to the 6 business partners’ toy drives or at the Salvation Army so needy children will wake up this Christmas with gifts under the tree. The Angel Giving Tree program provides special Angel tags, representing underprivileged children across the region for donors to select and give new, unwrapped toys (call 215.787.5964). Fill Christmas stockings with children’s gifts and donate your time to the Stocking Stuffers program (215.787.2819). Help fill the Red Kettles on street corners and online with donations to Salvation Army programs. For more info: visit http://www.use.salvationarmy.org/use/www_use_philadelphiadhq.nsf/.
