Holiday lights set fire to park toilets
From Hattiesburg American:
Clinton officials say Christmas lights at Kids Towne Playground started the fire that melted its portable toilets.
The fire broke out Christmas Day in the wood lattice building that held the toilets.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Moak said there were lights and extension cords all over, it was raining, and extension cords were sitting in puddles.
Park director Ray Holloway says you could see where the wiring shorted out.
He says it's the first time something like this has happened in his 22 years in parks and recreation.
The park and playground were built in April 1996 by an all-volunteer army of almost 3,000. They had to be rebuilt that year after teen arsonists destroyed much of the park.
Holloway says the outbuilding will be replaced.
