Mayor Finch Unveils City’s BGreen 2020 Greenprint for the Future

BRIDGEPORT, CT  – An Energy Improvement District, a green energy park, green jobs training, a comprehensive recycling initiative and a complete streets plan are just a few of the many components included in the City of Bridgeport’s BGreen 2020 Greenprint, a sweeping document that lays out the “green” vision Mayor Bill Finch ignited when he announced his Executive Order on Sustainability in October 2008.

The Burroughs-Saden Library served as both venue and example for the Mayor’s unveiling of his Greenprint for the future as he announced plans for a major energy retrofit of the building, including all new mechanical systems, new windows and doors and, solar panels and landscaping in order to reduce its energy consumption by up to 40 percent and save significant money for the city.

The plan is expected to cost more than $1 million dollars and will be funded through a combination of federal, state and private funding monies.

“The Greenprint lays out the plans for sweeping change in the city – in how we do business, in how we plan our neighborhoods and streets, and in fostering a more energy efficient stewardship of our resources,” said Mayor Finch, “This plan will save money for both the city and its taxpayers, protect the environment, and improve the health and quality of life for all of us”.

While climate change is a global issue, many of the most innovative solutions are taking place at the local level. Mayor Finch and the City of Bridgeport join more than 1,000 Mayors from around the country who have pledged to build sustainable communities that are energy independent and environmentally responsible.

A Royal Flush is proud to be a Bridgeport based company with all these exciting improvements ahead of our city.

What do you think of this plan?
