The History of Toilet Paper

Toilet paper; we use it on a day to day basis almost involuntarily. Have you ever wondered where it comes from?

It turns out that the first form of toilet paper was seen in China during the 6^th century. The imperial court would order the paper in 2-by-3 feet sheets. But before the toilet paper, people had to find other ways to maintain their hygiene. Among those methods was wool, lace, hemp, leaves, grass, snow, stone, sand, moss, seashells or even sticks. As the years went on, new methods rose. Soon, people began using newspapers and catalogs to handle business. In fact Sears had a special edition catalog called Rears and Sorebutts.

Moving forward, we began to get fancier, introducing perforated, colored and scented toilet paper. Today you can have your pick from many different brands and types. There is even the wet wipe!

But the wonderful use of toilet paper doesn’t end in the bathroom. Toilet paper can be used for arts and crafts or to “TP” a house; pranking someone by throwing unrolled toilet paper over their house and front lawn.
