The annual one week Sales and Use Tax Exclusion for clothing and footwear costing less than $300 runs from Sunday, August 19th thru Saturday, August 25th. This is the perfect opportunity to get the kids ready to go back to school!

Dubbed “The best book sale in New England”, the Pequot Library’s 52nd annual Summer Book Sale starts Friday the 27th and runs till Tuesday the 31st. Over 150,000 books, LPs, rare books and more are on sale.

This Sunday in Center City Philadelphia is the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon (formerly the Distance Run). Rumor has it that Ryan Hall will be back again this year to defend his title.
If you are around Sunday, come out and cheer on the runners. The race has a slightly different course this year. It starts on Ben Franklin Parkway, heads down Market St, loops around to Arch St, before heading back out on the Parkway to Kelly Drive and MLK Dr and then finishes in front of the Art Museum.
The weather should be fantastic, so it should be a great day to watch a fantastic race. And you may even get to see this:

A Dumpster pool near Grand Central Terminal. These code-compliant pools have lifeguards and portable showers. (K. Luce)
Go for a swim in a Dumpster in Midtown Manhattan. Macro-Sea, the company that created last year’s invitation-only Dumpster pools in Brooklyn, has transformed more shipping containers into code-compliant pools, complete with lifeguards, decks, cabanas and portable showers and toilets. Free entry bracelets will be handed out for time slots from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The pools are part of the city’s Summer Streets initiative, which has closed off Park Avenue to motor vehicles from Chambers to 72nd Streets for the next two Saturdays.
