Women in our Office

There has been a topic I have been dying to talk about. The topic is working with women. The reason why I can’t seem to shake this off is because at the headquarters of A Royal Flush, the women run the office. Here is the break down.

First off we have Debra “Debbie” Russo. She is one of the owners of the company and has her fingers in EVERYTHING. If you ever have a question about ANYTHING concerning the company, she is definitely the one to go to.

Next we have Alexandra “Alex” Townsend. She’s Debbie’s daughter and also part owner of ARF. When coming around her, watch out. Alex is always on top of things and knows how to handle ANY situation. Honestly, I believe her answer waiting time is under 5 seconds.

Following Alex, we have Sharon. Sharon has been with ARF for 11 years, so could you imagine the amount of knowledge this amazing woman has?! If we were able to harvest all of her knowledge and experience of ARF, we’d have our own aroyalpedia. Get it? Wikipedia? Encyclopedia? No? Well, I had to try to be funny.

Next up is Brenda. She handles all of our construction order and let me tell you this woman has the greatest amount of patience. No matter what kind of call she comes across, she is ALWAYS calm. You can definitely learn a few things from her.

Judy. Now Judy is pretty awesome, but if you can’t tell, it is a trend here at ARF. Judy answers all of our incoming calls and redirects them accordingly. It sounds simple, but it is not. Without specific information, Judy can’t redirect the calls correctly. Sometimes, she has to ‘pull teeth’, A LOT of them. At times I think she should be a dentist.

We then have Sheryl. Sheryl handles all of our new, bigger events. From concerts to festival to weddings, she knows it all. Having tons of experience in Marketing and Sales, Sheryl knows how to speak to our customers in a way that assures them we can be trusted. She is also in love with Murphy, our office cat, and he loves her back.

Lastly, there are the interns: Natasha, Brianna, and myself.

Natasha handles all of the Connecticut construction orders. Brianna helps out with renewing any event orders. I, Samantha, help out with event orders, sometimes construction, and do social media. Us interns are here to learn from these AMAZING women, which is why I think writing this blog has been bugging me so much.

If you didn’t notice, all of the women I mentioned have different traits. We have multitasking, quick and accurate, knowledgeable, patient, and just plain smart women working here. I believe it is the fact that there are so many women working in the office that makes ARF who we are.

Not to be a ‘feminist’, (because is there really a correct definition for feminism?), but I don’t believe working with men would offer me the same experience. Of course I would learn from men as well, but not in the way I am gaining the knowledge from the women here.

I am not saying that the men do not play into ARF’s success, because they do, but we speak to the customers and lets be honest, our customers drive our business. The men may think they are the foundation of the company, but come on, they can’t really believe it, can they?

And so I will end with a quote. In the words of Maria Portokalos from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, “The man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she wants.”
