Spring is in the Air

Spring is here and the weather is finally starting to warm up.  The weekends are now filled with charity walks, 5k races, little league games and so much more.

No matter what type of event you are having, we have the perfect restroom for you.  Feel free to visit our website or give us a call and we can give you a suggestion.

The most commonly ordered bathroom is our standard portable toilet.

Each toilet can accomodate around 100 people.

If you have handicap guests, our Handicap Accessible Toilets are wide enough for a wheelchair.

And don't forget the sinks.  Everyone wants clean hands, right?

These are just some of our basic restrooms.  Feel free to visit our website to see all the equipment that we offer.

Sorry for the Silence

Sorry for the recent silence on our blog.  All I can say is that we had one of the busiest event seasons I have ever experienced.

I know people say this all the time but I swear I blinked and this year flew by.  It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only two weeks away.  The highlight of the whole event season was our work with the Papal visit in Philadelphia.

It was a truly special event to be a part of and we are so thankful that ESM Productions and the World Meeting of Families chose our company to supply all the portable toilets.

We provided over 4500 restrooms that weekend between the World Meeting of Families event, support services for the City of Philadelphia and nearby towns, and then all of the other events in CT and NY that we had too.

As you can see it was a truly magical event.

In the coming weeks, I have some really great blog posts planned for all of you.  So be sure to check back in each week!

Women in our Office

There has been a topic I have been dying to talk about. The topic is working with women. The reason why I can’t seem to shake this off is because at the headquarters of A Royal Flush, the women run the office. Here is the break down.

First off we have Debra “Debbie” Russo. She is one of the owners of the company and has her fingers in EVERYTHING. If you ever have a question about ANYTHING concerning the company, she is definitely the one to go to.

Next we have Alexandra “Alex” Townsend. She’s Debbie’s daughter and also part owner of ARF. When coming around her, watch out. Alex is always on top of things and knows how to handle ANY situation. Honestly, I believe her answer waiting time is under 5 seconds.

Following Alex, we have Sharon. Sharon has been with ARF for 11 years, so could you imagine the amount of knowledge this amazing woman has?! If we were able to harvest all of her knowledge and experience of ARF, we’d have our own aroyalpedia. Get it? Wikipedia? Encyclopedia? No? Well, I had to try to be funny.

Next up is Brenda. She handles all of our construction order and let me tell you this woman has the greatest amount of patience. No matter what kind of call she comes across, she is ALWAYS calm. You can definitely learn a few things from her.

Judy. Now Judy is pretty awesome, but if you can’t tell, it is a trend here at ARF. Judy answers all of our incoming calls and redirects them accordingly. It sounds simple, but it is not. Without specific information, Judy can’t redirect the calls correctly. Sometimes, she has to ‘pull teeth’, A LOT of them. At times I think she should be a dentist.

We then have Sheryl. Sheryl handles all of our new, bigger events. From concerts to festival to weddings, she knows it all. Having tons of experience in Marketing and Sales, Sheryl knows how to speak to our customers in a way that assures them we can be trusted. She is also in love with Murphy, our office cat, and he loves her back.

Lastly, there are the interns: Natasha, Brianna, and myself.

Natasha handles all of the Connecticut construction orders. Brianna helps out with renewing any event orders. I, Samantha, help out with event orders, sometimes construction, and do social media. Us interns are here to learn from these AMAZING women, which is why I think writing this blog has been bugging me so much.

If you didn’t notice, all of the women I mentioned have different traits. We have multitasking, quick and accurate, knowledgeable, patient, and just plain smart women working here. I believe it is the fact that there are so many women working in the office that makes ARF who we are.

Not to be a ‘feminist’, (because is there really a correct definition for feminism?), but I don’t believe working with men would offer me the same experience. Of course I would learn from men as well, but not in the way I am gaining the knowledge from the women here.

I am not saying that the men do not play into ARF’s success, because they do, but we speak to the customers and lets be honest, our customers drive our business. The men may think they are the foundation of the company, but come on, they can’t really believe it, can they?

And so I will end with a quote. In the words of Maria Portokalos from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, “The man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she wants.”

Warm Weather is Here

Can you believe the weather we have had this week?  It has been amazing to open windows, put away your coats and get outside.  I don't know about you but I can't wait to enjoy the outdoors this weekend.

Warmer weather, of course, means more outdoor events and portable restrooms are the perfect addition to any outdoor event.

There is nothing worse than throwing a birthday party in the park and having no where for the kids to go to the bathroom.  Or having a BBQ at your house and then having all your guests line up to use the two bathrooms in your house!

Make your event fail proof by ordering a portable restroom from us.  We have everything from Standard Portable Toilets to our nicer VIP Flushing Portable Toilets, which have sinks and flushing toilets.

Call us at (877) 234-6545 to place your order!

Preakness Infield

This past weekend was the Preakness in Baltimore MD.  For horse racing fans, it is the third race of the triple crown.  For college students on the East Coast, is an opportunity to drink ridiculous quantities of beer and party all day.

The Preakness has become very famous for the running of the toilets.  Here is a video from 2008, when we provided the toilets:

It is hard to believe that people consider this fun but it has become a YouTube phenomenon in recent years.  You can find 100s of videos of people running across toilets, being belted with beer cans!

preakness

In order to ban this activity, the toilets this year (seen above) were spaced apart so no one can run across them.  Sad days folks!

But don’t worry, people still party like rockstars in the infield.  From the Baltimore Sun Blog, here is a breakdown of a day spent in the Infield!

Fear and Loathing in the Preakness Infield

The average attendee of the Preankess Infield probably doesn't even know that that Kentucky Derby Winner Animal Kingdom calls Maryland his home or the post times for today's races. But the average attendee probably does know that Bruno Mars and Train are headlining the Main Stage of InfieldFest, and there have been multiple Kegasus sightings before the time they wake up on most weekends.

9:32 a.m. -- I arrived at the Preakness Infield a few moments after they opened. There hasn't been much activity and Baltimore City Police have informed me there haven't been any arrests or ejections...yet.

9:46 a.m. -- First Kegasus sighting of the day. He/It is not doing any interviews until his media session at 11 a.m.

9:55 a.m. -- Mr.Greengenes, the Mid-Atlantic's premier cover-band, finishes up their first set of the day to make way for a Bikini Contest hosted by 105.7 The Fan personality Jeremy Conn. Guest Judges include the likes of Ed Norris and Jen Royle.

10 a.m. -- "I got here at 8 a.m. and I've only ran into 1 drunk guy since then. He came up to me hammered and said he wanted to drop kick one of our tents. I don't know what he means by that, but there's no way I'm going to let him." Dave Tart, CBS Radio Assistant Promotions Director.

10:05 a.m. -- First run-in with a wandering senior citizen infield attendee. He has a sign on his back reading "If lost, please return to [717-Phone Number]."

10:12 a.m. -- And the good folks at Jagermeister are handing out free slices of bacon. Best promotion, ever.

11:26 a.m. -- "I got here 5 minutes ago. I've already drank a beer and hooked up with a random girl." Phil V, 23 (according to his ID), Long Island, NY.

11:50 a.m. -- As the sun rises towards noon, folks seem to be ditching their shirts left and right.

12:03 p.m. -- Good job, Hotspur. Every band knows you have to close your set with a Bon Jovi cover when you play at a party. Living On a Prayer, anyone?

12:21 p.m. -- A drunken-dizzybat-whiffle ball competition has commenced in the field leading towards the Port-O-Potties. The objective of the game is to fill a whiffle ball bat with beer, and chug the entire thing in 10 seconds or less.

After chugging it, the participant must put the bat on the ground, put his head on the butt and spin in a circle around the planted bat for as many seconds as it took them to drink the beer inside. i.e. If it took them 7 seconds to chug the beer, they have to spin around the bat for 7 full rotations.

Finally, the participant must attempt to make contact with a slowly pitched whiffleball. Additionally, the participant tries to remain standing, "try" being the key word.

12:48 p.m. -- In honor of the late, great Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Slim Jim reps are giving our free samples. There has also been a surge of bets placed for Mucho Macho Man. The 3-year-old colt has a history of consistent finishes within the top 3, and has garnered some popularity among youthful gamblers, who are using today's festivities to pay homage to the sports entertainment legend.

1:54 p.m. -- Gearing up for the Kegasus press conference.

2 p.m. -- Kegasus bailed on his press conference. Too busy being Lord of the InfieldFest

2:20 p.m. -- While awaiting Kegasus' return, I ran into Jodie, a 27-year-old from Pittsburgh, who had quite a bit to drink. She informed me that she was out looking for mullets. He-Mullets, She-Mullets, etc. I'm not sure what she meant, or why she has devoted her day to mullet-hunting, but I decided not to try and figure her out considering she is from Pittsburgh.

2:53 p.m. -- Just met Bruno Mars and his entourage. Didn't have time to talk, had a meet and greet with a few fans before he had to warm up for his 4 p.m set.

3 p.m. -- Finally, I got a chance to sit down one-on-one with Kegasus, Lord of the InfieldFest. The half-man, half-centaur is very proud of the work he's put into promoting the 2011 InfieldFest. His main objective has been to remind the Infield attendees to "stay legendary." Obviously, he's been a huge factor in attracting young fans back to Infield festivities after recent alcohol restrictions turned-off several party-goers. On the other hand, several traditionalists are appalled by the idea that the self-proclaimed "Party Manimal" is the mascot of the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

3:42 p.m. -- A lot of the 8 a.m. arrivals are beginning to get tuckered out and find places around the infield to nap. 80-degree temps and bottomless mugs will do that to you, I suppose.

3:52 p.m. -- Ladies and Gentlemen, Kenny Mayne is in the building. Now it's a horse race.

4:20 p.m. -- Just got a hold of the Baltimore Police Info Line, the totals so far today are a surprising three ejections with zero arrests.

4:43 p.m. -- Bruno Mars is rocking. The entire crowd has joined in singing almost every word to "Grenade."

5:20 p.m. -- Apparently Jorts (jeans ripped or cut into shorts) are the hottest trend for Men 25 and under. I did not get that memo.

6:00 p.m The bugle just went off for the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes. About 12 minutes until post, and the infield is just about dead. A few stragglers are sticking around to try and watch the race from the inside. For the first time all day, there are more attendees in the grandstands then there are in the infield.

What did we learn today? Kegasus is 136 years-old, the best way to promote your brand to the 25 and under demographic is to give them free pig meat, and although there won't be a triple crown winner this year, it's not the end of the world. Too soon?

Did you go to the Preakness?  Would you run across the toilets?

Where to Celebrate?

Are you Irish?  Or do you just love to “pretend” your Irish on March 17th?

If so, this is the best website.  It is www.saintpatricksdayparade.com and it lists all the St. Patrick's Day parades in the US and some international parades as well.

Whether you plan to go to the really big parades, like New York City or Philadelphia or if you are much more interested in your smaller hometown parade, this site will help you plan out your celebrations!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone!

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.

Summertime

It is hard to believe that summer is finally here.  After a straight week of 90+ degree days, some people may already be ready for fall.

But for those of you who embrace this warm weather, consider moving your events, picnics and parties outside.  After the crazy, snow filled winter that we had, people are dying to spend time outside.

To make your outside event even better, be sure to bring the following things:

  • Chairs (some people have a real problem sitting on the ground)
  • Umbrellas
  • Blankets
  • Music
  • Games or Toys for children
  • Food
  • Cold Drinks
  • Utensils and Napkins
  • Hand Sanitizer

And consider renting a portable toilet from us as well.  Any event can turn ugly if you don’t have somewhere for people to go to the bathroom.  We provide a lot of options for you to choose from, so there really is a type of bathroom to meet each person’s demands and budget.

Philadelphia Marathon

This weekend is the Philadelphia Marathon. Be sure to come out Sunday morning to support all the runners. The race starts at the Art Museum, goes down to the Delaware River, through the city to Boat House Row and then out to Manayunk and finishes back at the Art Museum. It will be a chilly morning but a lot of fun!
