The Process of Winterization

It’s getting cold outside! You know what that means, right?

It’s time for the winterization process to begin. We usually see this happen with home sprinkler systems, but we at A Royal Flush have to winterize toilets and electric flush systems during the winter season.

For those of you who don’t know, the process of winterization is simply getting something, whether it’d be a car or a portable toilet, prepared for winter. Could you imagine a world without winterization? It would be a mess! Pipes would burst, cars would break down, and most importantly, portable toilets would not function correctly during the winter.

Portable toilets not functioning correctly during the winter can lead to problems, like not being able to clean the toilet.

There are few ways to winterize portable toilets. The first is to add a brine solution made with rock salt. This is the least expensive way to fight the cold weather.

Another method is to use methanol. A lot of portable toilet operators prefer methanol because it is a lot easier to use. Where with the brine solution you have to dissolve the rock salt, methanol can be poured directly into the toilet.

Now let’s say you are in a very cold area; I’m talking -40° F. For weather this cold many people mix the brine solution and the methanol.

So there you have it; the basic process of winterization.

If you have any further questions about our winterization process give us a call at 877-234-6545.

Telephone Tips!

If you have browsed thru our blogs in the past, you know that A Royal Flush is a business that aims to please every single one of our customers. This takes time and skill.

Among those skills is talking to our customers and making them feel comfortable enough to do business with us.  The majority of our customers call in to place their others. Talking over the phone is completely different than talking in person, therefore, there are a few things that we do to make the conversation with our customers smooth and easy.  I thought I would share these tips with you, so you can make yourself more ‘personal’ over the phone.

First of all, don’t follow a script verbatim. Don’t get me wrong, scripts are an amazing guideline for a successful phone call, but if you read them word for word, you begin to sound like a robot. Who wants to buy anything from a robot? Would you? I didn't think so. So to prevent this from happening, put your own twist on the script and practice it. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Second, you can also try smiling. Yes I know, it sounds silly because you are on the phone and the person on the other line cannot see you, but smiling is actually reflected in your tone. Think about it, when you have a bad day, your tone reflects that.

I hope that these quick tips will help you on your daily phone conversations. Keep in mind that these tips are not only for customers, you can use them with everyone.

Lastly, we are always looking for new ideas for our blog.  So if you have any requests, leave us a comment and we will most definitely take them into consideration.

Samantha's Goodbye

So, today is my last day at A Royal Flush, for now at least. I am off to school, but I have so much I want to say to the amazing people I have had the honor of working with this summer. So, as my goodbye, I am posting a Blog to tell the world how much ARF and its hard workers have impacted me.

Sheryl: Thank you for always helping me if I needed it. And thank you for sharing your love of cats with me. Murphy appreciates it, he told me.

Judy: Thank you so much for being the way you are. You always try your best and know exactly how to speak to people. Thank you for always bringing in those beautiful flowers AND feeding me every once in a while.

Brianna: Although I barely speak to you because you are on the other side of the office, which feels like the other side of the world; I admire how quickly you pick up on things. You are the youngest of the group I personally think you have a bright future.

Natasha: I am so happy I had the chance to work with you. You were always there with a Starbucks coffee when I needed one. I want to apologize for talking calories constantly, but like I said, I’ve lived a lot.

Brenda: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You are the most patient person in the world. I know I can ask a lot of questions, but you were always willing to help me, no matter how busy you were. You also fed me, constantly, and were my support during my ‘healthy living’.

Sharon: You thought me the ropes, and for that I could never thank you enough. You always find a way to teach me, even last week you taught me something about our system. Thank you for always helping me.

Igor and Albert: I know I bother you two A LOT, but you always respond and make the impossible, possible. So thank you for that. I was a pleasure working with people that get things done.

The people upstairs: Although I work downstairs and don’t spend as much time with you all, thank you for always helping me if I needed something done.

Bill: I’d like to thank you for giving me an opportunity to work for A Royal Flush. If you ever need me to make you another spreadsheet, Alex has my number.

Debbie: I’d like to thank you for always making me feel like a part of the team. In any other internship, I would have probably been placed at a desk, in a corner doing some monkey business. But you, Bill, and Alex, have always given me important projects and have made sure I understood every aspect of the projects. I look forward to working with you in the near future.

Alex: Alex, you have been the BEST boss I’ve ever had. You challenge me and trust that I will do a good job. You have taught me to be a better, more efficient worker, which is crucial in my career. And most of all, thank you for caring. You have shown me how much you care for your employees and I can’t thank you enough for all the things you’ve done. I’m going to miss you!

I want to thank every single one of you. You have made my experience at ARF truly amazing. And remember, this is not goodbye; it’s see you later.

You didn’t think you could get rid of me that easy, did you?

Family Ties at Work

It turns out that at A Royal Flush we have quite a few family members working in all of our departments this summer.  So, I figured I’d let you know who they are.

First off, we have what I personally like to call the mother- daughter duo, Debbie and Alex.  Debbie is also one of our owners.  Debbie and Alex keep the company moving forward and always have an answer to every one’s questions. They are the go-to people here in the office.

Next up in our list are our interns.  This summer, we have the pleasure of having two of our driver's daughters working as summer interns.  Angel and Anthony are drivers for the Royal Environmental division of A Royal Flush, which handles our tractor trailer trucking.  Anthony’s daughter is Natasha, who is handeling some of our construction work this summer.   Angel's daughter, Samantha, is helping out with our events and all of our social media!

We also have our love birds, Brenda and her husband Pablo working together. Pablo is our personal handy man.  I swear he does it all.  Whether he is rebuilding a restroom trailer or fixing your desk drawer, Pablo does it all.  Brenda is our construction sales representative for New York and handles some of our toughest job sites!

As you can see, family ties run deep in our company and it works.

The Process of Placing Your Order

It starts with a call. Whether it is from Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Hartford, or Hampden, doesn’t matter. As soon as we say, “Thank you for calling A Royal Flush, how can I help you?” our ordering process begins, as does a relationship with our customers.

We continue by asking probing questions, such as whether the order is for an event or a construction site, how many people will be attending, what they are looking for and when they would like the toilets delivered. These questions allow us to match our customer with the person who can best help them.

After asking these questions, we move on to the little details that make all the difference.  Most of the time, if one of the tiny details is missing or incorrect, chaos occurs. These small details include, but are not limited to, cross roads, a contact person at the event or construction site, and the time of the delivery. These details help our drviers, which means your toilet gets delivered on time and placed in the right location.  This makes everyone happy!

We then take payment, review the information with the customer and thank them for their business.

As a company, we have policies that need to be followed. One of our policies is inputting your order into our logs, where we keep track of everything. As soon as we finish putting an order in our system, it must be recorded in our log.  This system of checks and balances allows us to minimize missed orders or mistakes.

From there, the order goes on to dispatch and the order taking process is completed and it is no longer in our hands.

Every order that we take is different, but we enjoy taking them. We aim to please our customers and build lifelong relationships with them and, in all honesty, that relationship begins with a call.

Be sure to call us soon to place your next order!  (877) 234-6545

The History of the Portable Toilet

When attending an event where portable toilets are lined up and ready to serve their purpose, one does not think of how they came to be. Who would sit and ponder as to how they evolved? No one.

So I figured I’d give you all a crash course on, wait for it, the “History of Portable Toilets.”

Did you hear the trumpets? Good.

Portable toilets are first seen 3500 years ago in Ancient Egypt. Imagine a stool with a hole in the middle and on the receiving end, a clay pot.

Next we have, the Middle Ages. They were a bit classier than the Egyptians with a chamber pot, or portable toilet, which contained a small round vessel made out of metal and sometimes, if a family of money, even glass. Where’d the contents go? Out the window along with the baby.

During World War I, U.S. infantrymen would use toilets with “T. Crapper” printed on them. The plumber and company that manufactured those toilets was Thomas Crapper. Lucky name, right? This is where we, the Americans, gave birth to the idea of a toilet.
Thomas Crapper

The last stop on our journey through history is in Long Beach, California. Here, shipbuilders created a wooden cabana with a drainable waste bin. This cabana was placed close to a job site so workers wouldn’t have to wander far from their job.

Today, we see the shiny plastic portable toilets and do not realize how good we have it. So, the next time you use one, think of having to use one in Ancient Egypt, and I promise, you will enjoy the experience a lot more.
